You sense clearly when your strength is spent and you want to be by yourself again. After giving your effort to others, you need time in which no one wants anything from you. Your need is for giving and resting to stand in balance in your life.
Gate 40 is connected with the theme of rest and limits in Human Design.
When this rest is passed over, resentment grows in you, even if you stay helpful. Once it receives its due, you give gladly again and your support carries warmth.
The six lines
Line 1
If your conscious Sun is in Gate 40.1:
Your conscious Sun sits in Gate 40, the Gate of Aloneness. After giving you need time in which nobody wants anything from you. That is no turning away but the road on which your will fills up again.
You want to know your time alone from the ground up before you lean on it. A second-hand account rarely satisfies you, you go back yourself to the layer everything else rests on. Until that layer is clear, whatever stands on top of it feels borrowed to you. This is not caution, it is how you come to trust anything at all.
It becomes too much when you give while keeping an inward account or when you disappear altogether. A clear no at the right moment spares you both. Security comes to you from what you have understood, not from what you have been promised. What you once worked through to the bottom still holds when things around you get unsettled. That is where your calm comes from.
When you withdraw without a bad conscience, what you give afterwards comes freely.
Your impulse for daily life: Today you pick one place where your time alone still rests on an assumption and follow it one layer deeper. Working slowly is no delay for you, it is how ground appears under your feet. In the evening you note in one sentence what you now actually understand. The rest can wait for another day.
Line 2
If your conscious Sun is in Gate 40.2:
Your conscious Sun sits in Gate 40, the Gate of Aloneness. After giving you need time in which nobody wants anything from you. That is no turning away but the road on which your will fills up again.
Your time alone comes to you without a run-up and without intention. You often notice only from the reactions of other people that something was unusual which felt entirely ordinary to you. Because it costs you so little, you tend to undervalue it. What comes easily is still worth something. In your case it is worth a great deal.
It becomes too much when you give while keeping an inward account or when you disappear altogether. A clear no at the right moment spares you both. In between you need time in which nobody wants anything from you. What others read into you rarely matches what you find in yourself. The gap between the two is where most of your tiredness comes from.
When you withdraw without a bad conscience, what you give afterwards comes freely.
Your impulse for daily life: Today you watch for when a call from outside actually means your time alone and when it only carries what someone else expects of you. You let the first call wait an hour before you answer. A no to the wrong request keeps your energy free for the right one. Nobody is owed your immediate yes.
Line 3
If your conscious Sun is in Gate 40.3:
Your conscious Sun sits in Gate 40, the Gate of Aloneness. After giving you need time in which nobody wants anything from you. That is no turning away but the road on which your will fills up again.
You find out nothing about your time alone without having tried it. What convinces you on paper you would rather test early against the resistance of reality than late. Other people sometimes see disorder in this. What looks like detour from outside is the only road on which your kind of knowledge is made.
It becomes too much when you give while keeping an inward account or when you disappear altogether. A clear no at the right moment spares you both. Your path rarely runs straight. An attempt that does not work takes nothing from you, it cuts off a possibility you would otherwise have carried around for years. Every closed door narrows the field in a useful way.
When you withdraw without a bad conscience, what you give afterwards comes freely.
Your impulse for daily life: Today you run one small experiment with your time alone whose outcome you do not know. Afterwards you look less at the result than at what you now know and did not know before. A small failure costs little. An untested assumption can cost you years.
Line 4
If your conscious Sun is in Gate 40.4:
Your conscious Sun sits in Gate 40, the Gate of Aloneness. After giving you need time in which nobody wants anything from you. That is no turning away but the road on which your will fills up again.
Your time alone works through the people who already know you. With strangers you need a run-up, inside a trusted circle the essential part almost falls into place by itself. A room full of unknown faces costs you more than an hour with three people who have known you for years. That is not shyness, it is where your ground lies.
It becomes too much when you give while keeping an inward account or when you disappear altogether. A clear no at the right moment spares you both. A circle that carries you grows out of reliability rather than numbers. You give first and receive later, often from a side you had not counted on. Keeping the circle in good repair is itself part of your work.
When you withdraw without a bad conscience, what you give afterwards comes freely.
Your impulse for daily life: Today you turn to one person in your circle and tell them what you are working on. You ask for no favour, you simply share your time alone with someone you trust. An opening comes more often from that telling than from any effort made alone. Let the conversation be the point.
Line 5
If your conscious Sun is in Gate 40.5:
Your conscious Sun sits in Gate 40, the Gate of Aloneness. After giving you need time in which nobody wants anything from you. That is no turning away but the road on which your will fills up again.
People expect a solution from you as soon as your time alone becomes visible. Part of that expectation fits you exactly, another part belongs to a picture someone has put up in front of you. Telling the two apart is the work of your life. Nobody else can do it for you, because from outside the two look identical.
It becomes too much when you give while keeping an inward account or when you disappear altogether. A clear no at the right moment spares you both. Between rescuer and disappointment there is only one step for you. The difference is decided beforehand, in the moment you agree or let it pass. Saying less than you could is often the safer trade.
When you withdraw without a bad conscience, what you give afterwards comes freely.
Your impulse for daily life: Today you check one request to see whether it really means your time alone or a picture somebody holds of you. You agree where you can deliver and you say openly where the expectation reaches beyond you. A clearly drawn line protects your standing better than any promise. Vagueness is what costs you later.
Line 6
If your conscious Sun is in Gate 40.6:
Your conscious Sun sits in Gate 40, the Gate of Aloneness. After giving you need time in which nobody wants anything from you. That is no turning away but the road on which your will fills up again.
Your time alone changes shape in you over the years. First comes a long stretch of experience, then a distance in which things sort themselves and finally a calm that others come to you for. Each stretch has its own kind of work. Treating one of them as though it were another is where most of the strain comes from.
It becomes too much when you give while keeping an inward account or when you disappear altogether. A clear no at the right moment spares you both. What you live counts for more with you than what you say. Your standing grows not from intent but from the fact that you walked through what you speak about. People sense the difference without being able to name it.
When you withdraw without a bad conscience, what you give afterwards comes freely.
Your impulse for daily life: Today you ask which stretch you are standing in and treat it accordingly. In the middle of experience you gather without drawing conclusions yet. At a distance you sort things out and where you have long since come through, you pass your time alone on quietly. No stretch is wasted time.
Incarnation crosses with Gate 40 as Sun gate
Right Angle Cross of Planning
At the head stands a delivering with a clear end. You give what you promised and pull back afterwards. Behind it lies a feel for alliances, along with an appetite for trying things and a pull towards the decisive detail. What comes of it is a planning that portions out strength: first the work, then the quiet and neither with a bad conscience.
When you have taken on a task, it is done and nobody has to ask twice. When you close the door afterwards, some people take you for unfriendly. And when you do not take the quiet, you keep delivering and grow more silent from week to week.
The right angle means this unfolds out of your own rhythm. Others get the work, they do not set the beat. If none of this fits, it is the picture that is off and not you.
Juxtaposition Cross of Denial
A delivering followed by retreat stands at the front. Add a feel for agreements, the pull towards new experience and a firm beat. Together that makes a movement almost invisible from outside: you say that everything is fine and only notice late when nothing is.
When somebody asks whether you can still manage, you say yes before you have listened inwards. When you are alone afterwards, everything falls off you. And when you take two days, the strength comes back as if nothing had happened.
Juxtaposition means this tone is fixed. You can know it and still not be rid of it. If you do not recognise yourself here, that says something about the picture and nothing about you.
Left Angle Cross of Migration
A delivering with retreat, a feel for alliances, the hunger for experience and a beat of your own. Alone that is a well portioned day. Among people it becomes a coming and going: you are reliably there as long as the thing runs and afterwards you are gone.
When you are needed in a group, you are the person who carries the thing. When it is over, you do not get in touch for weeks. And when somebody holds that against you, you understand the reproach and still cannot dissolve it.
The left angle means this theme comes about at other people. For you alone the change would simply be your rhythm. If none of this fits, it is the picture that is off and not you.
