Gate 59 in Human Design

You sense how closeness arises between people and which barriers still stand in its way. A feeling for familiarity leads you to people with whom you can open up. Your need is to experience connection that is freely chosen.

Gate 59 is connected with the theme of building voluntary connection in Human Design.

When closeness is demanded too quickly, withdrawal arises instead of trust. Once it grows at a pace that suits both, you experience an intimacy that carries without taking over.

The six lines

Line 1

If your conscious Sun is in Gate 59.1:

Your conscious Sun sits in Gate 59, the Gate of Intimacy. You come through walls that other people leave standing. Where you are, it gets easier for people to show themselves. You want to know your closeness from the ground up before you lean on it. A second-hand account rarely satisfies you, you go back yourself to the layer everything else rests on. Until that layer is clear, whatever stands on top of it feels borrowed to you. This is not caution, it is how you come to trust anything at all. It gets tight when you cross a boundary that was not opened or when you mistake attraction for closeness. A question asked before the step clears both. Security comes to you from what you have understood, not from what you have been promised. What you once worked through to the bottom still holds when things around you get unsettled. That is where your calm comes from. When you watch how far someone is open, a closeness forms in which something new can grow. Your impulse for daily life: Today you pick one place where your closeness still rests on an assumption and follow it one layer deeper. Working slowly is no delay for you, it is how ground appears under your feet. In the evening you note in one sentence what you now actually understand. The rest can wait for another day.

Line 2

If your conscious Sun is in Gate 59.2:

Your conscious Sun sits in Gate 59, the Gate of Intimacy. You come through walls that other people leave standing. Where you are, it gets easier for people to show themselves. Your closeness comes to you without a run-up and without intention. You often notice only from the reactions of other people that something was unusual which felt entirely ordinary to you. Because it costs you so little, you tend to undervalue it. What comes easily is still worth something. In your case it is worth a great deal. It gets tight when you cross a boundary that was not opened or when you mistake attraction for closeness. A question asked before the step clears both. In between you need time in which nobody wants anything from you. What others read into you rarely matches what you find in yourself. The gap between the two is where most of your tiredness comes from. When you watch how far someone is open, a closeness forms in which something new can grow. Your impulse for daily life: Today you watch for when a call from outside actually means your closeness and when it only carries what someone else expects of you. You let the first call wait an hour before you answer. A no to the wrong request keeps your energy free for the right one. Nobody is owed your immediate yes.

Line 3

If your conscious Sun is in Gate 59.3:

Your conscious Sun sits in Gate 59, the Gate of Intimacy. You come through walls that other people leave standing. Where you are, it gets easier for people to show themselves. You find out nothing about your closeness without having tried it. What convinces you on paper you would rather test early against the resistance of reality than late. Other people sometimes see disorder in this. What looks like detour from outside is the only road on which your kind of knowledge is made. It gets tight when you cross a boundary that was not opened or when you mistake attraction for closeness. A question asked before the step clears both. Your path rarely runs straight. An attempt that does not work takes nothing from you, it cuts off a possibility you would otherwise have carried around for years. Every closed door narrows the field in a useful way. When you watch how far someone is open, a closeness forms in which something new can grow. Your impulse for daily life: Today you run one small experiment with your closeness whose outcome you do not know. Afterwards you look less at the result than at what you now know and did not know before. A small failure costs little. An untested assumption can cost you years.

Line 4

If your conscious Sun is in Gate 59.4:

Your conscious Sun sits in Gate 59, the Gate of Intimacy. You come through walls that other people leave standing. Where you are, it gets easier for people to show themselves. Your closeness works through the people who already know you. With strangers you need a run-up, inside a trusted circle the essential part almost falls into place by itself. A room full of unknown faces costs you more than an hour with three people who have known you for years. That is not shyness, it is where your ground lies. It gets tight when you cross a boundary that was not opened or when you mistake attraction for closeness. A question asked before the step clears both. A circle that carries you grows out of reliability rather than numbers. You give first and receive later, often from a side you had not counted on. Keeping the circle in good repair is itself part of your work. When you watch how far someone is open, a closeness forms in which something new can grow. Your impulse for daily life: Today you turn to one person in your circle and tell them what you are working on. You ask for no favour, you simply share your closeness with someone you trust. An opening comes more often from that telling than from any effort made alone. Let the conversation be the point.

Line 5

If your conscious Sun is in Gate 59.5:

Your conscious Sun sits in Gate 59, the Gate of Intimacy. You come through walls that other people leave standing. Where you are, it gets easier for people to show themselves. People expect a solution from you as soon as your closeness becomes visible. Part of that expectation fits you exactly, another part belongs to a picture someone has put up in front of you. Telling the two apart is the work of your life. Nobody else can do it for you, because from outside the two look identical. It gets tight when you cross a boundary that was not opened or when you mistake attraction for closeness. A question asked before the step clears both. Between rescuer and disappointment there is only one step for you. The difference is decided beforehand, in the moment you agree or let it pass. Saying less than you could is often the safer trade. When you watch how far someone is open, a closeness forms in which something new can grow. Your impulse for daily life: Today you check one request to see whether it really means your closeness or a picture somebody holds of you. You agree where you can deliver and you say openly where the expectation reaches beyond you. A clearly drawn line protects your standing better than any promise. Vagueness is what costs you later.

Line 6

If your conscious Sun is in Gate 59.6:

Your conscious Sun sits in Gate 59, the Gate of Intimacy. You come through walls that other people leave standing. Where you are, it gets easier for people to show themselves. Your closeness changes shape in you over the years. First comes a long stretch of experience, then a distance in which things sort themselves and finally a calm that others come to you for. Each stretch has its own kind of work. Treating one of them as though it were another is where most of the strain comes from. It gets tight when you cross a boundary that was not opened or when you mistake attraction for closeness. A question asked before the step clears both. What you live counts for more with you than what you say. Your standing grows not from intent but from the fact that you walked through what you speak about. People sense the difference without being able to name it. When you watch how far someone is open, a closeness forms in which something new can grow. Your impulse for daily life: Today you ask which stretch you are standing in and treat it accordingly. In the middle of experience you gather without drawing conclusions yet. At a distance you sort things out and where you have long since come through, you pass your closeness on quietly. No stretch is wasted time.

Incarnation crosses with Gate 59 as Sun gate

Right Angle Cross of the Sleeping Phoenix

In first place stands the ability to let a wall drop. With you a conversation turns personal fast, without anybody having intended it. Behind it a temperament that swings between fullness and emptiness. Underneath an awake present and a force that comes out of itself. What comes of it is a closeness that arises quickly and sometimes faster than you would like.

When you talk with somebody for an hour, that person knows things about you that others do not know after years. When you need distance afterwards, it looks as though you had pulled back. And when you are in company where everything stays polite, you get tired.

The right angle means this unfolds out of your own way of being. Others join in, you opened the door. If none of this fits, it is the picture that is off and not you.

Juxtaposition Cross of Strategy

A breaking open of barriers. Add a swinging temperament, an appetite for trying things and a pull towards the decisive detail. Together that makes a way of approaching people that looks like a plan and is none. You find the one sentence after which a conversation goes on differently.

When you get to know somebody, after two questions you know where it goes next. When you use the same manner on a different person, it comes to nothing. And when you work out in advance what you want to say, it sounds stiff. In the moment itself you find the tone.

Juxtaposition means this pull is fixed. It is not a technique, it is build. If none of this fits, it is the picture that is off and not you.

Left Angle Cross of Spirit

A letting go of barriers, a swinging temperament, the pleasure in trying things and an eye for detail. For you alone little of it would be visible. Among people it turns into something that holds a group together: with you the sitting side by side stops and a being together begins.

When you come into a group where everybody sits on their own, you speak to the first person. When that works, within an hour everybody is talking. And when you go there on an empty day, the same thing does not work for you.

The left angle means this theme comes about in the encounter. Alone there would be nothing to notice. If you do not recognise yourself here, that says something about the picture and nothing about you.

And what does this mean for you?
