ELANUM

Gate 36 in Human Design

Unfamiliar situations move you strongly and often set off a rush of changing feelings. In them you experience unrest and at the same time an openness to what is still strange. Your need is to meet the new in such a way that you do not lose yourself in it.

Gate 36 is connected with the theme of handling unfamiliar situations in Human Design.

When too much that is new comes at once, the unfamiliar can flood you. Once you manage to take it in piece by piece, you become in time someone who gives others support in a crisis.

The six lines

Line 1

If your conscious Sun is in Gate 36.1:

Your conscious Sun sits in Gate 36, the Gate of Crisis. You go through emotional weather that other people step around. You come back with something you did not have before. Calm sometimes feels empty to you. You want to know your emotional depth from the ground up before you lean on it. A second-hand account rarely satisfies you, you go back yourself to the layer everything else rests on. Until that layer is clear, whatever stands on top of it feels borrowed to you. This is not caution, it is how you come to trust anything at all. The other side shows when you seek turmoil because quiet says nothing to you or when you equate yourself with the suffering. A quiet day without an event is then the real practice. Security comes to you from what you have understood, not from what you have been promised. What you once worked through to the bottom still holds when things around you get unsettled. That is where your calm comes from. When you let a depth change you rather than define you, an understanding for other people grows out of it. Your impulse for daily life: Today you pick one place where your emotional depth still rests on an assumption and follow it one layer deeper. Working slowly is no delay for you, it is how ground appears under your feet. In the evening you note in one sentence what you now actually understand. The rest can wait for another day.

Line 2

If your conscious Sun is in Gate 36.2:

Your conscious Sun sits in Gate 36, the Gate of Crisis. You go through emotional weather that other people step around. You come back with something you did not have before. Calm sometimes feels empty to you. Your emotional depth comes to you without a run-up and without intention. You often notice only from the reactions of other people that something was unusual which felt entirely ordinary to you. Because it costs you so little, you tend to undervalue it. What comes easily is still worth something. In your case it is worth a great deal. The other side shows when you seek turmoil because quiet says nothing to you or when you equate yourself with the suffering. A quiet day without an event is then the real practice. In between you need time in which nobody wants anything from you. What others read into you rarely matches what you find in yourself. The gap between the two is where most of your tiredness comes from. When you let a depth change you rather than define you, an understanding for other people grows out of it. Your impulse for daily life: Today you watch for when a call from outside actually means your emotional depth and when it only carries what someone else expects of you. You let the first call wait an hour before you answer. A no to the wrong request keeps your energy free for the right one. Nobody is owed your immediate yes.

Line 3

If your conscious Sun is in Gate 36.3:

Your conscious Sun sits in Gate 36, the Gate of Crisis. You go through emotional weather that other people step around. You come back with something you did not have before. Calm sometimes feels empty to you. You find out nothing about your emotional depth without having tried it. What convinces you on paper you would rather test early against the resistance of reality than late. Other people sometimes see disorder in this. What looks like detour from outside is the only road on which your kind of knowledge is made. The other side shows when you seek turmoil because quiet says nothing to you or when you equate yourself with the suffering. A quiet day without an event is then the real practice. Your path rarely runs straight. An attempt that does not work takes nothing from you, it cuts off a possibility you would otherwise have carried around for years. Every closed door narrows the field in a useful way. When you let a depth change you rather than define you, an understanding for other people grows out of it. Your impulse for daily life: Today you run one small experiment with your emotional depth whose outcome you do not know. Afterwards you look less at the result than at what you now know and did not know before. A small failure costs little. An untested assumption can cost you years.

Line 4

If your conscious Sun is in Gate 36.4:

Your conscious Sun sits in Gate 36, the Gate of Crisis. You go through emotional weather that other people step around. You come back with something you did not have before. Calm sometimes feels empty to you. Your emotional depth works through the people who already know you. With strangers you need a run-up, inside a trusted circle the essential part almost falls into place by itself. A room full of unknown faces costs you more than an hour with three people who have known you for years. That is not shyness, it is where your ground lies. The other side shows when you seek turmoil because quiet says nothing to you or when you equate yourself with the suffering. A quiet day without an event is then the real practice. A circle that carries you grows out of reliability rather than numbers. You give first and receive later, often from a side you had not counted on. Keeping the circle in good repair is itself part of your work. When you let a depth change you rather than define you, an understanding for other people grows out of it. Your impulse for daily life: Today you turn to one person in your circle and tell them what you are working on. You ask for no favour, you simply share your emotional depth with someone you trust. An opening comes more often from that telling than from any effort made alone. Let the conversation be the point.

Line 5

If your conscious Sun is in Gate 36.5:

Your conscious Sun sits in Gate 36, the Gate of Crisis. You go through emotional weather that other people step around. You come back with something you did not have before. Calm sometimes feels empty to you. People expect a solution from you as soon as your emotional depth becomes visible. Part of that expectation fits you exactly, another part belongs to a picture someone has put up in front of you. Telling the two apart is the work of your life. Nobody else can do it for you, because from outside the two look identical. The other side shows when you seek turmoil because quiet says nothing to you or when you equate yourself with the suffering. A quiet day without an event is then the real practice. Between rescuer and disappointment there is only one step for you. The difference is decided beforehand, in the moment you agree or let it pass. Saying less than you could is often the safer trade. When you let a depth change you rather than define you, an understanding for other people grows out of it. Your impulse for daily life: Today you check one request to see whether it really means your emotional depth or a picture somebody holds of you. You agree where you can deliver and you say openly where the expectation reaches beyond you. A clearly drawn line protects your standing better than any promise. Vagueness is what costs you later.

Line 6

If your conscious Sun is in Gate 36.6:

Your conscious Sun sits in Gate 36, the Gate of Crisis. You go through emotional weather that other people step around. You come back with something you did not have before. Calm sometimes feels empty to you. Your emotional depth changes shape in you over the years. First comes a long stretch of experience, then a distance in which things sort themselves and finally a calm that others come to you for. Each stretch has its own kind of work. Treating one of them as though it were another is where most of the strain comes from. The other side shows when you seek turmoil because quiet says nothing to you or when you equate yourself with the suffering. A quiet day without an event is then the real practice. What you live counts for more with you than what you say. Your standing grows not from intent but from the fact that you walked through what you speak about. People sense the difference without being able to name it. When you let a depth change you rather than define you, an understanding for other people grows out of it. Your impulse for daily life: Today you ask which stretch you are standing in and treat it accordingly. In the middle of experience you gather without drawing conclusions yet. At a distance you sort things out and where you have long since come through, you pass your emotional depth on quietly. No stretch is wasted time.

Incarnation crosses with Gate 36 as Sun gate

Right Angle Cross of Eden

At the tip stands a wave that compresses everything at once. It does not come on cue. Behind it lies a border that decides by feel who may be close today. Underneath work a stream of inner images and a voice that waits for its moment. What comes of it is a person in whom things pile up and then come out in a single sentence.

When you notice something rising in you, at first you say nothing at all. When you do speak, the sentence lands and the room is different afterwards. And when you speak too early, the same truth turns into an argument you did not want.

The right angle means these waves come out of you. Others end up inside them, they do not make them. If none of this fits, it is the picture that is off and not you.

Juxtaposition Cross of Crisis

A wave that rises without warning. Add a border drawn by feel, an agreement with your own nature and a wide span between much and little. Together that makes someone who gets calmer in agitated situations because they know them from the inside.

When you walk into a room where something has just tipped over, you know at once what is going on. When you then do what needs doing, the others are puzzled by how calm you are. And when it is all over, you sag while the others talk in relief.

Juxtaposition means this tone is fixed. Quiet times do not make it smaller, they only make it invisible. If you do not recognise yourself here, that says something about the picture and nothing about you.

Left Angle Cross of the Plane

An emotional wave, a felt border, a quiet yes to your own nature and a wide span. On your own that is a busy inner life. Among people it turns into something very solid: you keep ending up in situations that are not about ideas but about food, sleep, money and who can stand whom.

When a group talks about grand values, you ask who is doing the shopping. When you see somebody at the end of their strength, you sit next to them and say little. And when you spend a while dealing only with beautiful thoughts, you get restless and look for something you can touch.

The left angle means this theme comes about at other people. For you alone it would stay theory. If none of this fits, it is the picture that is off and not you.

And what does this mean for you?
