People entrust their stories to you, often without you asking. As you listen, you take in not only words but what was lived between them. Behind this lies your need to give experiences a place where they are heard.
Gate 13 is connected with the theme of listening carefully in Human Design.
When you take in too much at once, it grows full and heavy inside you. If you can set down what you have heard, you keep the openness that lets others feel safe with you.
The six lines
Line 1
If your conscious Sun is in Gate 13.1:
Your conscious Sun sits in Gate 13, the Gate of the Listener. People tell you things they tell nobody else, often without your having asked. A knowledge of what moves people gathers in you that way.
You want to know your listening from the ground up before you lean on it. A second-hand account rarely satisfies you, you go back yourself to the layer everything else rests on. Until that layer is clear, whatever stands on top of it feels borrowed to you. This is not caution, it is how you come to trust anything at all.
You lose your balance when you carry what you heard around as though it were your own. It helps to do something physical after a heavy conversation. Security comes to you from what you have understood, not from what you have been promised. What you once worked through to the bottom still holds when things around you get unsettled. That is where your calm comes from.
When you listen without wanting to fix anything, your presence helps the other person sort things out.
Your impulse for daily life: Today you pick one place where your listening still rests on an assumption and follow it one layer deeper. Working slowly is no delay for you, it is how ground appears under your feet. In the evening you note in one sentence what you now actually understand. The rest can wait for another day.
Line 2
If your conscious Sun is in Gate 13.2:
Your conscious Sun sits in Gate 13, the Gate of the Listener. People tell you things they tell nobody else, often without your having asked. A knowledge of what moves people gathers in you that way.
Your listening comes to you without a run-up and without intention. You often notice only from the reactions of other people that something was unusual which felt entirely ordinary to you. Because it costs you so little, you tend to undervalue it. What comes easily is still worth something. In your case it is worth a great deal.
You lose your balance when you carry what you heard around as though it were your own. It helps to do something physical after a heavy conversation. In between you need time in which nobody wants anything from you. What others read into you rarely matches what you find in yourself. The gap between the two is where most of your tiredness comes from.
When you listen without wanting to fix anything, your presence helps the other person sort things out.
Your impulse for daily life: Today you watch for when a call from outside actually means your listening and when it only carries what someone else expects of you. You let the first call wait an hour before you answer. A no to the wrong request keeps your energy free for the right one. Nobody is owed your immediate yes.
Line 3
If your conscious Sun is in Gate 13.3:
Your conscious Sun sits in Gate 13, the Gate of the Listener. People tell you things they tell nobody else, often without your having asked. A knowledge of what moves people gathers in you that way.
You find out nothing about your listening without having tried it. What convinces you on paper you would rather test early against the resistance of reality than late. Other people sometimes see disorder in this. What looks like detour from outside is the only road on which your kind of knowledge is made.
You lose your balance when you carry what you heard around as though it were your own. It helps to do something physical after a heavy conversation. Your path rarely runs straight. An attempt that does not work takes nothing from you, it cuts off a possibility you would otherwise have carried around for years. Every closed door narrows the field in a useful way.
When you listen without wanting to fix anything, your presence helps the other person sort things out.
Your impulse for daily life: Today you run one small experiment with your listening whose outcome you do not know. Afterwards you look less at the result than at what you now know and did not know before. A small failure costs little. An untested assumption can cost you years.
Line 4
If your conscious Sun is in Gate 13.4:
Your conscious Sun sits in Gate 13, the Gate of the Listener. People tell you things they tell nobody else, often without your having asked. A knowledge of what moves people gathers in you that way.
Your listening works through the people who already know you. With strangers you need a run-up, inside a trusted circle the essential part almost falls into place by itself. A room full of unknown faces costs you more than an hour with three people who have known you for years. That is not shyness, it is where your ground lies.
You lose your balance when you carry what you heard around as though it were your own. It helps to do something physical after a heavy conversation. A circle that carries you grows out of reliability rather than numbers. You give first and receive later, often from a side you had not counted on. Keeping the circle in good repair is itself part of your work.
When you listen without wanting to fix anything, your presence helps the other person sort things out.
Your impulse for daily life: Today you turn to one person in your circle and tell them what you are working on. You ask for no favour, you simply share your listening with someone you trust. An opening comes more often from that telling than from any effort made alone. Let the conversation be the point.
Line 5
If your conscious Sun is in Gate 13.5:
Your conscious Sun sits in Gate 13, the Gate of the Listener. People tell you things they tell nobody else, often without your having asked. A knowledge of what moves people gathers in you that way.
People expect a solution from you as soon as your listening becomes visible. Part of that expectation fits you exactly, another part belongs to a picture someone has put up in front of you. Telling the two apart is the work of your life. Nobody else can do it for you, because from outside the two look identical.
You lose your balance when you carry what you heard around as though it were your own. It helps to do something physical after a heavy conversation. Between rescuer and disappointment there is only one step for you. The difference is decided beforehand, in the moment you agree or let it pass. Saying less than you could is often the safer trade.
When you listen without wanting to fix anything, your presence helps the other person sort things out.
Your impulse for daily life: Today you check one request to see whether it really means your listening or a picture somebody holds of you. You agree where you can deliver and you say openly where the expectation reaches beyond you. A clearly drawn line protects your standing better than any promise. Vagueness is what costs you later.
Line 6
If your conscious Sun is in Gate 13.6:
Your conscious Sun sits in Gate 13, the Gate of the Listener. People tell you things they tell nobody else, often without your having asked. A knowledge of what moves people gathers in you that way.
Your listening changes shape in you over the years. First comes a long stretch of experience, then a distance in which things sort themselves and finally a calm that others come to you for. Each stretch has its own kind of work. Treating one of them as though it were another is where most of the strain comes from.
You lose your balance when you carry what you heard around as though it were your own. It helps to do something physical after a heavy conversation. What you live counts for more with you than what you say. Your standing grows not from intent but from the fact that you walked through what you speak about. People sense the difference without being able to name it.
When you listen without wanting to fix anything, your presence helps the other person sort things out.
Your impulse for daily life: Today you ask which stretch you are standing in and treat it accordingly. In the middle of experience you gather without drawing conclusions yet. At a distance you sort things out and where you have long since come through, you pass your listening on quietly. No stretch is wasted time.
Incarnation crosses with Gate 13 as Sun gate
Right Angle Cross of the Sphinx
Furthest forward lies an ear. People tell you things they tell nobody else. It happens earlier than you sometimes like. Underneath sit a role that works through bearing, an expression that is fully yours and a sense of direction.
When you sit in a group, the stories land with you without your having asked. When you keep all of them, it gets heavy and your own thread tears. And when you let some of it go, there is room again for what is new.
The right angle means this collecting comes from you. The others bring the material, the room for it you make. If you do not recognise yourself here, that says something about the picture and nothing about you.
Juxtaposition Cross of Listening
A wide ear, plus a role that people follow. Underneath insights that turn up without notice and the ability to make strange things understandable. Out of it comes a listening that takes in more than what is said. Tone, pauses and the left out parts come along.
When somebody tells you about their day, you hear the place where it really catches. When you name it right away, they close up. And when you wait, they say it themselves at the end. Then the insight belongs to them and not to you.
Juxtaposition means this listening is fixed. You cannot switch it off when you are tired. If none of this fits, it is the picture that is off and not you.
Left Angle Cross of Masks
An ear where stories stay. A role that others read. Added to that insights out of nowhere and a translating into the understandable. On your own none of it is noticeable. Among people, though, you show the face that fits the story you are hearing.
When someone tells you something heavy, you go quiet and serious without choosing it. When you walk into a cheerful room afterwards, it takes time to switch over. And when somebody asks how you yourself are doing, you need a moment to think.
The left angle means this theme comes about in the encounter. The face belongs to the conversation and not to you. If none of this fits, it is the picture that is off and not you.
